Bees

Bees are a an integral part of our lives. While in some instances bees can pose a threat to people, it is important to remember that life as we know it would not be possible without this industrious pollinator.

When are Bees Dangerous?

Bees are not a significant threat to people when they are foraging (flying around on flowers and trees looking for nectar and pollen). Bees can become dangerous in two situations:

Nests:
Bees have created a home. Nest are often found anywhere there is a small entrance hole with space behind. Noises and vibrations from mowers, blowers, and other equipment near a nest may trigger a defensive response from bees.

Swarms:
A traveling unit of bees without a nest. May stop and rest on objects (trees, light poles, etc) and form a large “clump” or “ball” of bees. Are docile, but can become defensive if disturbed. Swarms usually leave within 24-48 hours. Bees will nest in areas that have a small entrance point with a cavity behind it.
